Which faction/subfactions fits the "Swordmaster" roleplaying theme the best? - Total War: Warhammer (2024)

And please, for me, keep it civil and fun. This is an RP campaign, nothing super serious.

High elves spend a lifetime masteing their weaponcraft, but Slaanesh can become even more obsessed, so they are both good choices. However, it could be that the Dark Elves also fit both of these, given they are elves but also prone to excess. Tullaris (if he ever comes) must be a very proficient swordsman.

In a retconned timeline, Eltharion became a Swordmaster, trained by Belenaer. If you wanted to RP, change Cavil's name to Belenaer, and refuse the mount options to become Eltharion the Blind.

Lokhir for the DE: Not a Swordmaster per say but a skiled Duelist.

Malus for DE: Keep him on foot and he is unbeatable.

True, a Katana is a medium sword, Walisashi was the smaller version and the Nodachi was the largest, there’s little doubt that Samurais used swords.

A single-edged long weapon like a katana is usually categorised as a ‘long-knife’ or just‘dao’.（I used translation software, so I'm not sure the wording is accurate enough）

BTW, the katana is only one representative of the many Japanese swords/knives, and they also have what I would define as a sword(dating back to Era of Great Tombs)

​​That sh*t is essentially a spear, but it can also slash. It's the Japanese Claymore or Zweihander.

Wouldn't really make any thematic sense as Belannaer is the leader of Saphery. I'd prefer a rework for Teclis where upon building/getting control of the White Tower of Saphery you unlock Belannaer as a Swordmaster-boosting Legendary Hero. I'm a huge Swordmasters of Hoeth fan (as you can see by my constant posting about them) and I'd love anything that allows them to be an efficient unit in late-game campaign, and the only thing Teclis gets is a worthless upkeep reduction...

Tyrion is a figure of great martial prowess, but, thematically, it makes more sense for him to ride alongside Silver Helms and to command citizen militia.

The leader of Saphery is uncertain. The leader of the White Tower of Hoeth, that is the High Loremaster of Hoeth, is Teclis, though.

Belannaer the Wise is the oldest living Loremaster of Hoeth, and the Phoenix King's advisor. I could see him become Finubar's LH, or at least a quest giver.

Ideally, CA should release a character pack.
